"I’ll have to be in the minority here as well because I did not like this video at all. First, it is not for beginners at any age. Side plank? Crane? Handstand? Really? If an adult does not have a formal yoga practice and at least at intermediate level, how can you help a child to be safe in the pose? Very few, if any, guidelines and instructions were given for safe alignment. Second, this is not, in my opinion, “kid friendly” either. It is not geared toward children in any way except that there are children in the video and again, very few instructions and guidelines for assists and hands-on adjustments for children. Additionally, there were no kramas or variations given for more difficult poses – the kids were falling all over in tree. Why not give a krama and have them bring their foot lower, even toes on the floor? Kickstand in side plank? As one reviewer put it, it looked like a Yee Family Home Video with professional camera work. The description states “a fun series of poses” but I wholeheartedly disagree. There are poses, yes, but in no way is it a “series” or flow as you would see in any typical yoga practice. It was disjointed and a mess. I was very shocked and disappointed in this DVD especially as I am a huge fan of Rodney Yee. I got this to help establish a practice with my children (help “reign” them in) and to garner pointers for when I teach children. This does neither and I want to send it back, but I bought it as a package deal, so I don’t know what the policy is on that. While the Yee Family is truly lovely and they look like they are used to doing this together (except for the oldest daughter who looked like she’s not into yoga and didn’t want to be there, making faces and half-heartedly doing the poses), I do not think it represents the reality of what a typical family practice would look like elsewhere in the world! It’s a shame because I really wanted to like this one."

"I guess I will be going against all reviews on this one. I bought this to teach my 8 year old the joys of yoga and this was not the video. This yoga video was horrible and I was pretty surprised. There was no explanation on what pose they were doing. Yes it was nice seeing his kids involved but they were not clear on what pose they were doing and what pose was next. I assumed it would be for beginnings but it wasn't -they were doing poses That an 8 yr should not be doing -especially one who has not done yoga. I would not buy this video."

Disappointing
Date: October 13, 2010
"Purchased after reading the good reviews and I was disappointed. This video is more like a Yee family home video with little instruction on how to perform a correct pose, no smooth flow, some poses are too difficult for beginners. Not well organized. No prior pose instruction section, too fast flowing with some poses, too slow or too difficult with others. You'll need a yoga strap in the middle of this DVD without any prior instruction that you'll have to have one on hand- 4 just magically appear for the Yee family. I own several of Rodney's yoga DVDs and one other kids yoga DVD. This is a greatly inferior lesson to the norm. My kids (age 5,7,8) follow Rodney Yee's Yoga for Beginners much better and so do I. Family yoga may work for kids to horse around at home on a rainy day and offer a mini intro to yoga, but they will more likely learn incorrect form and tune out during this scattered and a tad dull video. The YMCA family yoga kids group rated this with 1 to 3 stars- that is another 40 opinions. I am a beginner to intermediate yoga mom and my kids are beginners. I would like to exchange this to check out other family yoga options but I automatically tossed the receipt and packaging because I love Rodney Yee and Gaiam and I honestly never expected a disappointment from either."

Too Challenging for 3-Year-Old
Date: February 18, 2010
"Based on other reviews, I chose this DVD over the simpler ones for kids. This one was WAY too challenging for my 3-year-old to follow along. I tried helping her but she still ended up in tears, saying, "I can't do it!" The family members move too quickly from pose to pose without much explanation. It would be good for a child who has already mastered the basics, but not so great for a beginner."

Great Video!
Date: January 8, 2010
"I purchased this to do with my 3 yr old daughter, she loves it. She does have a short attention span though, so we do the tape for a while then turn it off and then she wants to do it again! It's fun and gets your kids intrested in yoga."
"I purchased this DVD to do yoga with my 4 small children, ages 8, 6, 3 and 2. They enjoyed the DVD in the beginning, but I soon found that they prefer when I lead our yoga or stretching time without the DVD playing. I am practicing the Family Yoga DVD, learning the poses from Rodney and his family and then having fun with my children as I teach them. We have contests to see who can hold the poses and see how flexible we can be. I have become more relaxed and they are enjoying the time together. Even my husband has joined in with us!"

Great to do with the kids

"I bought this DVD to introduce my 8 year old daughter to Yoga. It's great for beginners, and we both enjoy it. It's definitely tailored to children though, no flow in the moves, but perfect for what it is."

great for familys!
Date: August 14, 2009
"I love this DVD. I was looking for something for me and my 3 yr old daughter to do together and its perfect. It moves along fast enough that it keeps her attention and she is able to do many of the easier poses. Everyone on the DVD takes turns teaching something even the kids, the youngest kid on the DVD uses simon says "simon says jump forward" and my daughter loves it. As someone new to yoga it was easy enough for me to follow, but as I get better and stronger there is enough variation in the different ways each move is done on the DVD I can pick a different person to follow and not get bord. my 19month son trys to mimic some of the moves but losses intrest fast, I can see him participating more maybe in about 6months. my sister in law also started doing yoga with her 3yr old after I told her about this and they to are enjoying it. Good luck -I definatly would recomend this to anyone with our without kids."

"A great DVD that we play over and over. My 4 year old daughter loves little Jo Jo and we have a great time doing this together. My 21 month old is doing his own downward facing dog with us. Its laid back enough to have some fun and good poses to do together. The Yee family is engaging and I can only hope they will put together another video with the same people. Wonderful!!!"
