"I bought this crock about 5 years ago for kitchen composting, and it was certainly better than the old plastic container I was using! It has a nice country kitchen look, and works (meaning keeps the smells in). The actual composting happens in the outside bin, of course. I just bought another one for my sister for Christmas. Order a few extra filters while you're buying the crock."

Terrific
Date: December 26, 2009
"This may be a slightly unfair review as this was a gift and not one that I own; but I see the person many times a week and they always rave about it. It is sturdy without being overly klunky, looks great, and is large enough to hold a lot of scraps without looking overpowering on your counter.
I gave it 4 stars because I believe with any product there is always room for improvement, but I have nothing negative to say about it. The ease of use clearly got 5 stars because seriously, how difficult is it to lift up the lid, lol?"

Best compost crock I've seen
Date: November 25, 2009
"I love this "little" compost crock. It is small enough to fit easily on my kitchen counter yet it is significantly larger than the ones the stores near us sell. The size is such that I don't need to run out to the compost bin in the yard after every meal to empty it and the filter has done an excellent job at containing the odors, also something the ones at the stores near us did not feature. All in all this product far exceeded my expectations."

"Helps to get us composting! A nice -- not too small, not too large -- perfect size fits nicely and looks great on the counter top. The lid fits on a little poorly, but fumes are still contained. If there was a need for two, I'd purchase another!"

"My favorite feature about this product is that it is big enough to accommodate a few days' worth of compost. My previous receptacle had to be emptied at least once daily. This one is also nice looking on the counter, and I have not yet had any fruit flies invading."

"Excellent compliment to my Sun-Mar Composter! Filters work well for me (but don't quite fool the fruit flies that invaded earlier in the month!)."

"We've been very happy with the Kitchen Compost Crock. It's easy to empty and easy to rinse out. The only down side is that fruit fly larvae tends to embed in the carbon filter under the lid pretty quickly."

Makes composting easier
Date: April 21, 2009
"I keep this on my kitchen counter and use for veggie scraps as I make dinner, and for any other compostables I generate. There is no bad odor and it doesn't look bad in the corner of the counter. I bring it out to my compost heap for emptying every few days (or daily during steamy summer weather). It makes it so much more convenient and motivating to compost. It did come with a metal handle that looped around 2 ceramic knobs, but it didn't really stay in place, so I did away with it since it wasn't really necessary. On the plus side, I've used this for over a year and have never replaced the filter, yet there is no bad odor nonetheless."

Terrific Adjunct to Composting
Date: September 17, 2008
"Before we bought this crock, we used the green plastic container for several years. While useful, the appearance and durability were lacking. This crock, on the other hand, looks great in the kitchen, holds up well, and does just what it's supposed to. With the charcoal filter in the lid, there is never any odor. We put a small biodegradable bag inside the crock, and take the bag with contents outside to our compost bin once or twice a week. I took the crock to our church as one of the displays at our Earth Day event, and it received rave remarks from several people."

Ceramic compost crock (with BioBag)
"We keep this on our kitchen counter -- it doesn't take up much room, holds a lot so saves me having to take stuff out to the composter every time I create scraps, and looks good too. It can be put into the dishwasher (we remove the handle so it doesn't rust) or is easy to handwash. We use the kitchen-size BioBags inside to help keep it cleaner. If the bags are there too long and start to decompose, a liquid settles in the bottom, but the container does not leak. This crock tends to stay odorfree, even when we don't have a filter in it. If it can be detected, we know it is past time to take it out to the composter! Sometimes there is a problem with "fruit flies" but they stay in the container unless the lid is lifted. Again, a case of not taking it out soon enough. It takes a little trial and error to determine how long before you should empty this, but it generally holds up just fine for at least a week (in our climate here in Utah anyway). There is a hollowed out area around the inside bottom edge and a lip on the top edge, which make it slightly harder to get the bags out or to clean, but these are minor problems. Overall, this container works great!"
