Spinning Composter

Spinning Composter

Whether they're rooftop dwellers or nestled under a bedroom balcony, your Roma tomatoes and burrito-bound jalapenos will thrive with healthy compost, creating fewer scraps for the landfill as well. Our urban-savvy Spinning Composter is made of 50% post-consumer recycled plastic and produces up to 85 lbs. of odorless, fertile compost in about a month. Removable base collects water drippings — a nutritious byproduct. Eight built-in rollers spin to mix in oxygen and speed decomposition. Secure latching door is hinged for filling, detaches for emptying. 31"H x 26"L x 21"W; 7 cu. ft; 14 lbs. Arrives assembled. Canada.

All natural, microbial based Compost Activator (4 lbs, sold separately) speeds up decomposition. For initial application apply 1 pound of compost activator per 2 cubic yards of organic matter to pile. Mix compost by spinning composter and follow by watering thoroughly. Re-apply at the rate of ¼ to ½ pound per 2 cubic yards of material 2-3 times per year. USA.

Reduce your trash output! Date: November 1, 2009
"I can't believe how little goes in our "trash" since we started using the spinning composter. We already used a worm factory and put *some* of our kitchen waste to good use making compost with worms....but since we got the spinner, we put almost nothing in the trash! I love it!"

Easy composting for the lazy environmentalist! Date: November 17, 2009
"A friend recommended this composter to me and I'm so happy with it. It's my first composter, so I was nervous to commit to a specific composting system, but this was a snap to install and so easy to use.

It took me a few weeks to figure out the right balance of wet to dry compost, but now I've got the hang of it. So easy: just open the hatch, toss in your waste and/or shredded newspaper, close the hatch and give it a spin or two. I know that others have recommended that you purchase two so one can "stew" while the other is in use--I think that's a good idea as we have already almost already filled ours to the top after 6 weeks of use (family of four).

Really easy to use Date: November 8, 2009
"This is our first composter. We use it for all vegie kitchen scraps. Adding composting material is very easy. We realized we actually will need two composters so one can rest, and we can continue to add scraps to another. So no soil yet."

Make compost faster Date: September 4, 2009
"I have had 2 other compost bins in the last 8 years and this is the fastest system I have ever used to make compost. I had my husband's handmade three staged compost system which took a lot of work such as more frequent watering and moving materials from one bin to the other. This one is absolutely the cheapest but it is not worth it unless you are home all day (I work full time). My second one is a regular kind (black, plastic, 3'x3'x4'H) from a garden store and this does the job well except it is pain to take the compost from the bottom of it. Also, mixing and airing takes time. It takes more than 4 months to make compost. The spinning composter, if you use properly - not too much in it and spin and water it regularly, makes great compost in a month or a little more. I would love to buy one more if my budget allows next year."

Flimsy latch Date: June 24, 2009
"We were excited about this composter for the first few months. Then we noticed that an animal was scratching at the latch. We live in the suburbs (in Silicon Valley). No bears, but probably raccoons. They didn't take long to break the latch.

We liked the composter so much that we wanted to replace the latch. But the company said it would involve a new door and a new drum. Too expensive.

We were new to composting and the company said that we must have had a bad balance in our compost... Too much food odor and that is why animals were attracted.

So maybe this is a great composter, but I guess I wouldn't recommend it for newbies.

"This composter is such a gem. It required relatively no assembly. It is so easy to maintain the compost material; with my small kitchen scrap container I purchased from Gaiam, I am able to dump scraps right out into the composter, add dirt and leaves periodically then use the compost turner I purchased from Gaiam with it. The composter rolls on the axis easily. We have been waiting to buy an economical composter with ease of operation and this is it."

"I really like this composter, almost all of our food scraps go in here and we are making good soil additives for free. The sturdy construction has kept out all rodents, which is a concern with food scraps. you may want 2 so that one batch can finish while you have new food being added to a second composter"
