Walking Solar King Crab

Walking Solar King Crab

This battery-free robot uses a tiny solar cell and a miniature motor to transform light into learning. Fun to assemble, this action-packed character combines an engrossing lesson in solar power with hours of entertainment, too! The King Crab scurries about on eight tippy toes. China.

Good Idea Gone Very Wrong Date: July 21, 2009
"I have been teaching the kids about solar power and thought the idea of a solar powered toy would bring the idea home, this item was not a good example. For starters, it took a very long time to put the item together and sometimes tweezers had to be used for parts and this is coming from someone with very tiny, agile fingers. The instructions were long and complex and sometimes I had to go backwards and re-do sections on assembly. After all that hard work I figured this toy will be awesome. This toy was a bust. Hours of direct sunlight proved to do absolutely nothing, the toy doesn't move/doesn't work. It's not broken it just doesn't generate enough solar power from direct sunlight to really get going. I suggest a solar cricket instead, much better."
